Local Students amongst Top Ten in Country's Arabic GCSE out of 1264 candidates. Local students Hala Sawalem (year7), Amna Sheikhi (year 7) and Salha Al-Fitouri (year 8) was amongst the top ten students according to Edexcel, the UK’s largest awarding body. Our three pupils sat the GCSE Arabic exam earlier this summer at Crescent Community High schools for Girls which is a non selective independent Muslim school in Manchester. The results issued by the end of August 2008 showed that out of 1264 candidates Hala achieved one the highest overall marks together with two other pupils Amna and Salha. Jerry Jarvis, Edexcel’s Managing Director, said: “This is a tremendous achievement and testament to the Hard work students put into preparing for their exams. We send our congratulations to Hala.”Dr. Abdul Aziz on behalf of the board of trustees of Crescent Community Educational Trust (registered charity in UK) , said: "Praise be to Allah and congratulations to our three pupils and especially Hala and Amna who although they have taken an early GCSE (year7), They managed this fantastic results together with an excellent GCSE results for the whole year 11. In addition, we extend our thanks to teachers, staff and parents in our school for their hard work as well as the support of our Muslim community in Manchester. In addition, Hala has also managed to memorise the whole Qur’an and this is a tremendous achievement". This school has been set up more than 6 years ago with three curricula in one i.e. Sharia’, Quran, Arabic and national curriculum subjects with a very strong pastoral system. In our OFSTED inspection report in November 2007 you can read : “…. Provision for students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding, underpinned by a strong pastoral system. It continues to say …… Pupils’ behaviour is outstanding…” However, this school is in need of financial help as the low fee paid by pupils does not cover the full expenses of the school. At the end, I would like to appeal for all those generous people to help us by donating money to the school and make your cheques payable to Crescent Community Education Trust and sent it to: Crescent Community High School for Girls 23, Denison Road Victoria Park Manchester M14 5PB Or for more information call us on: 0161 256 2652 or contact us.
